Post image for Operation Graduation 2011 Essay: Kelia Hill (Lafayette, Ga.)

Going into high school I never thought I’d be in this situation.

I never cared about school, I only wanted to go to socialize. At the end of my junior year, I was told more than likely I wouldn’t graduate and that a good option for me would be to go to Ombudsman.

When I came to Ombudsman for my intake and heard all the rules, I was asking myself what I had gotten myself into.

It turns out all the rules just so happen to be what I needed and had good reasoning behind them. With no cell phones and talking, it was strictly work.

Being able to work at my own pace and not having to worry about keeping up with everybody else, was probably the best part.

The teachers helped to motivate me a lot, knowing they were there to help made a big difference in my attitude about school.

Coming to Ombudsman was probably one of the best decisions Ihave made. If I hadn’t, I probably wouldn’t have been able to graduate.

My work ethics have changed a lot, at this time last year I wasn’t even considering college.

After seeing I could achieve my goal of graduating, I want to go on a persue a higher education.

Looking back over the experience, Ombudsman taught me that I needed to apply myself more in my work. My time at Ombudsman will definitely go with me on into college.
